Re: [microsound] Re: laptop ethics
i thought i'd mention an instrument that I built that uses a laptop in
performance and seems relevant in this discussion. It combines a
variety of input devices (sensor-fingerboard, bowed sensor-sponges, a
sensor-bow) with a spherical array of 12 speakers, all inspired by the
violin. In performance, I actually "bow" the speaker--the laptop
handles the synthesis/sampling/signal processing. More about the
instrument (BoSSA: Bowed-Sensor-Speaker-Array) can be seen/heard at:

between physical interaction and sonic output. the violinist has her
hands on the physical objects that are directly creating the sound
heard through physical resonance. her movements are understood by the
audience - e.g. attacking quickly with the bow produces a louder or
more quickly attacking sound... and the emotional quality of these
sonic characteristics match the visual character of the
instrumentalist's gesture, according to some lexicon of universal human
experience...<<<<
