probably just a matter of time until new standards of production appear
for this sort of music. :) the same way that techno isn't produced the
same way as pop or classical or jazz or lo-fi rock...
in the meantime however, reverb & such can still be used, but if they
are, it should be in an imaginative way, perhaps akin to the way
electroacoustic music uses them. i've had a lot of fun recently playing
with reverbs & delays in audiomulch: gives an almost psychedelic quality
to sounds otherwise rather bleak. all in all it probably makes the
music more approachable, not so much because it adds a 'catchy' element
but simply because it adds new sounds for your ear to hang to.
