Another drawback of hotline is that it's a closed protocol, which makes
it hard to integrate or automate.  Attaching some kind of administrative
web interface, for example, is essentially impossible.  Writing any kind
of bot or agent is also much harder for the same reason.

If we were use irc, it would make more sense to set up our own than to
create a channel on a public server.
