If you are only working with CD-quality audio in the realm of digi-music,
I doubt you will have any problem with the 16-bit limitations. If, on the
other hand, you plan to be working with the higher audio specifications of
DVD or with un-mangled acoustic recordings, 24-bit 96KHz audio I/O might
be a better idea, and for the latter the offerings I have seen have fit
into PCI slots. For this reason, I went with a G4 rather than a
Powerbook, and chose the M Audio Delta66 for the 24/96 specs. And so far
- by the way - the Delta is working with its still-beta drivers on my G4.
If you are spending money on an external audio interface, it seems wise to
insist on one with 24/96 capability in both analog and digital audio I/O.
Then again, if all of your software is 16-bit, why worry?
