There is certainly an interesting dichotomy between "material" and "abstract" 
in eletronic music in particular but it exists in music in general. this has 
to do with the relationship between the musical instrument and the music 
itself.The electronic instrument does not depend on the musician's 
outstanding physical ability, and has unlimited timbral variety. Therefor it 
enables an extremely abstract view on sound and texture. Sounds that were 
conceived in this way project, among other things, material qualities. The 
reason for that is, that in the plane in which they were conceived, sound and 
matter are one.
