microsonic materialism
I have no background in information theory or the politics of digital
audio, but I think a more apt metaphor for experimental electronic music
is that of electrometric radiation; that is, much of this glitch music
is simply the sound of organized (or not organized) electricity. I don't
remember all of my physics, but I seem to recall that electromagnetic
energy has both particle and wave properties, so describing it as matter
is only half correct. I would say the same thing about microsound /
glitch / post-digital / experimental electronic music. It's flow can
either be re-directed or harnessed via a storage medium, much like
electricity can flow through a circuit or be stored in a battery. So to
me it depends on how much one thinks of electricity as a material
"thing." One extremely lay opinion.
