The roll of the market and of the blind-consumption culture is of definite 
significance to the corruption of meaning. Although I would rather observe 
this from a farther point of view and look at how Language as a medium 
interacts with Meaning as the message conducted by that medium. 

The jewish bible (The old testament, if you prefer) was, according to 
tradition, given to moses on mt. sinai, including on top of the letters and 
words, a code system that indicates the proper way to sing the written texts. 
The literal translation of that code's name is "Taste". 
So, pretty obviously, the people or whoever wrote that thing were conscios of 
the way in which Words affect Meanings, and, on the other hand, of the 
magical property of Music as a conductor of clear Message.
This brings us back to the discussion of digital materialism.
