Do you think so? To me it seems more like the opposite... They appear
determined to stick in some twee little melody or other into almost every
thing they do...
That's another way of putting it. There is a fascination with melody, and
melancholy melody to boot. But between the shuffling shiftiness of
Incunabula and the erratic percussions of their last full-length there is
more than a little reaching for math, at least in principle.
What catches my ear is a tension between the two. But one may read it
either way and that accounts in part for their longevity and influence.
