Re: [microsound] dean roberts question + more
microsound:
first - is the dean roberts ritornell release actually OUT at this point?
my local store has stocked all of the ritornell releases thus far, but i'm
wondering if they don't have it because it's not out or they're not stocking
it because they already have too many mille plateaux-derived product lying
around...
highs); he also doesn't get too song-y. anyway, it makes me wonder
about his work in thela among other things.
having not heard the new one, i'll say that you could indeed do worse than
to check out thela's _argentina_ (very nice, vaguely rock derived, bits of
gamelan maybe) or any of his solo work under his own name or under the
white-winged moth moniker. there's a nice lathe cut collaboration with guy
threadgold called _cassavetes_ that was put out on roberts' own formacentric
disk label - very freeform electric-acousto drones and subtle tone
explorations. if you see the _silo/blanket_ lp by white winged moth, grab
it.
slightly ob-this-list: i picked up supersilent's _4_ and otomo yoshihide's
_cathode_ last night. _4_ is very nice electronics blended with jazz
instrumentation that works pretty well. _cathode_'s 4 pieces blend varying
layers of digital sound, manipulated and unprocessed acoustic instruments
and sachiko m's 'empty' sampler to create subtle manipulations of sound,
like the beat-frequency love fest between sine waves and mouth organ in
modulation #1... not dissimilar to the ISO s/t cd which should be discussed
on this list at some point.
