ahh, that is something i have wondered myself, & in fact, i don't think
all chain reaction stuff is boring, & i certainly don't think that any
of it that i heard is plain bad; in fact, i have started appreciating
that stuff all the more since i've started hanging out in clubs that
play this sort of music; to me it seems to make all the more sense in
that environment, & on vinyl, whereas my "compiled" tin box has mostly
been sitting there gathering dust in my apartment (& eventually cracked
my cd anyhow, but that's another story).

i have been very impressed with the vladislav delay 12"s on chain
reaction though, even the rather housey "huone". & yes, this must be
owned on vinyl, as has been pointed out. the difference is incredible.

anyway, what i like about tomas, as well as certain other artists such
as kit clayton or taylor deupree (in his beatier stuff) i guess is the
"digital dub" aspect to them.  it's how they produce their sound;
smoothly, elongatedly for clayton; precisely, stamp-like for deupree;
scissor-cut & artifact-laden for jirku. i mean sure, anyone can come up
with a good 4/4 beat; i think i'm just partial to certain sorts of sonic
sauces.

alternately, perhaps what it is about them is that their sound adapts
well to digital media: they all sound very relevant on cd (& mp3),
whereas a lot of chain reaction stuff doesn't.

as for enthusiasm proper... well, a lot of it is my own preference, but
the reason why i'm being loud about it is that i have appointed myself
to the job of promoting the music on no type (not too surprisingly since
i run it), & tomas' music falls under that umbrella; not only that, he's
currently our most popular artist. i'm enthusiastic about most of the
music we have on the site, & i can say that our last 10 releases or so
have been especially competent (though not always in a "microsound" kind
of way), to the point where i feel bad when i see how little reaction we
get where we need it most: review sites, magazines, & mailing lists...
i suppose this is a problem with mp3 though, as fals.ch seems to be
having the same issue.

as for your comment on mp3 vs microsound; i'll be the first to admit
that digital downloads are far from the most convenient way to hear
music to begin with. i suppose this will change in the future when mp3
hardware is commonplace, but for now, the good thing about the medium is
still its costlessness.
