Well, then take a good look at its big brother, the PCXPocket 440. It´s got
four mono in and four stereo in. It probably isn´t enough but it´s twice the
number of channels compared to the VX Pocket:

Are you sure your name is Virginia?

In any case, burning 4X is no problem through the USB bus. However, burning
audio CDs any faster than this can be quite the so-so. I´m having problems
reading even 2X audio discs on my very choosey Denon DCD-2560 CD player
(though my discman will read them fine), and I suspect burning audio at 6X or
8X would mean more problems for more people.

I´ll tell you what the hell it is! ;-)

It´s a PCI expansion box (they make several, actually), which means you can
use PCI-cards on your Powerbook (well, not exactly "on" it, but you know what
I mean). It´s quite expensive and kinda defeats the portability thing that the
Powerbook´s got going for it, but I´m sure it can be useful in the right
situations. Take a look here:

(it seems to be down right now, but it should be the right address).
