Re: [microsound] enough already!
I'd have to agree with Ms. DC-area-states...I went and saw Mssrs. Rehberg
and Schmickler (along with some local DJs and improvisors, as well as two
powerbook guys from Chi. whose names I can't remember, but come to think
of it are prob. on this list in any case) a few weeks ago when they came
to Toronto...The two main things I took home with me, though, had to be
1) the mems of utter sense-bombardment during Pita's set (I have no
idea how he was making his computer seemingly compress so many
simultaneous soundshards, and with an awesome sense of dynamics, no less,
not to mention a huge "whatthefuckwasTHAT?"-to-"been here, heard this"
ratio, as well as 2) coming to grips with my hopelessly outdated ideal
conception of music as a tangible fetishizable cd/record/tape/thing, made
glumly clear when I finally found out which guy hanging out outside
afterwards was Rehberg (since performance was pitch-black, by the laptop
light) and asked him if he'd brought Mego stuff to sell, to which he
stonefacedly replied all deadpanlike "No. We have a website, you
know..." [trans. "Welcome to the _real_ world, record geek!" :)] All in
all, in both respects and more, a much-needed kick in the ass.
