I'm actually a huge fan of beats (it's what got me into electronic music to
begin with), and I've been following Autechre since Incunabula (which, btw, I
don't like either -- too "thin", too much delay(s)), in other words from the
very beginning. I think this Autechre-thing has been discussed before (or
perhaps that was on The Wire list?), but maybe I'm just getting tired of their
current, particular Sound; I've always felt that Autechre could've left out
about 40-50% of the material on their latest CDs, because too many of the
tracks become formulaic -- and too many of them contain those silly
'auto-comp-chords' which are as cold and lifeless and predictable as the
Norwegian summer (or rather non-summer).

I still consider Amber one of their very best releases (perhaps the best), but
I also like Chiastic Slide and Tri Repetae very, very much. Why? Because here
they manage to synthesize rhythm and melody and harmony -- none of these
elements become isolated, but play so well together.

I've listened to EP7 several times as I don't take my autechrian interests
lightly, but it's not for me, it seems. And I think they should go in another
direction now, but, of course, they have to do whatever they think they have to

do.

It's OK. I can take it. And discussing music is the raison d'etre of this
list. :)
