ami - spiritual voice (airport)
the human voice, atomized and alienated. a near-silent scream. harrowing.
I thought I was the only one who bought this record! Like everything else
I have heard on which Tamaru appears (does anyone else here know his
music?) it is a necessity.
oval - wohnton (ata tak)
am i alone in thinking this subverted/perverted popp experiment THE pivotal
moment in click-n'-cut history?
Not alone. I found the synth and guitar pop of "Wohn Ton" far more
subversive than the lovely but more orthodox records following it. But I
suppose what makes Oval's early album interesting is that it is NOT offered
as another "click'n'cut" album but rather as a collection of songs, and
within the latter context the glitchery is more disorienting, although its
evolution toward "Process" has been nevertheless stunning. But whereas
"Systemisch" and its descendants are easily pinned down by ghettoizers as
"glitch" records (despite the textural and melodic depth elevating them far
above most of the clones), "Wohn Ton" remains strange and uncategorizable
and - most importantly - fun.
As for tops, it would be hard for me list mine, although the "Silverworld"
compilation on Soup-Disk served as a sort of Rosetta Stone in my
exploration of recent micromusic, and is highly recommended to all.
