Alas I fear he may be serious. It is does seem to be the case at least in San Francisco that if one wants DJ groupies, house and trip-hop and (gasp) anthemic Eurotrance will magnetize them much more quickly than will glitchscapes or blipbeats - or for that matter than will "IDM" or organic ambience or dub or krautrock or academic music or shawm solos or dan tranh recordings or old Taiwanese pop or just about anything else I might actually want to hear in a club. There IS a reason this music is almost never heard in this city, even though we have plenty of musicians making it and - from the look of the record racks - plenty of "pencil neck geeks" buying it, apparently in lieu of sex. (I can picture the article in The Wire: "Will the Digital Aesthetic Ruin your Sex Life?") But perhaps there is a confusion of terms: could "minimal shit" be remedied with a higher fiber content in the diet?
