a quick answer off the top of my head would be yes: processor power
and lack of real-time algorhithms...  in general.. but, this is
obviously changing a great deal with the speedy personal computers
available now... improvisation is attainable more than ever...

and, of course, a bit restriction: the fear of crashing..
