When sampling "nothing" on a regular hardware sampler, you go through
several points on the way (A/D converter, sampling rate converter etc) where
sound/artifacts can sneak in.


that makes sense.. which is why when normalized, a waveform
"appears"... the tiny artifacts are amplified to an audible level.
