I will agree with both Sean and Øivind here, in that I too at first found Pole 3 to be just another nice Pole album (and that in itself is not a bad thing) with merely a bit more obvious slant toward rootsy dub, and yet over the months it has become my favorite of the three. Last Saturday, for example, realizing that I would have to miss the free performance here in SF at CCAC because of a friend's birthday party, I played #3 five or six times in succession, as it did not seem to want to leave my stereo and continued to reveal new subtleties with each listen. I suppose that while #1 was striking as to its sound and #2 was interesting in its altered focus on dub, #3 delivers not so much surprise as simply the refinement and deepening of a personal style, and this last - like a comfortable room or a delicious restaurant - encourages me to return frequently for further pleasures.
