Re: [microsound] The Conversation ...not so OT

There's a pretty cool CD on Wordsound Records called 'Tapping the Conversation,' which is a kind of aural homage to the Coppola 'Conversation' movie, but not employing any actual samples from the film. It's credited to the Bug, and it's a collaboration between DJ Vadim and Kevin Martin.

If you enjoyed the film -- and it's a great movie, one of my favorites -- you might want to see 'Enemy of the State.' It's much more recent, from the past few years, and it's a blockbuster-style thriller starring Will Smith. But it also features Gene Hackman in a leading role, coming close to reprising his role in the Conversation.

I just saw that movie (from 1974 i think, by FF Coppola) featuring Gene
Hackman, fellow Harrison Ford, Robert Duvall. It's playing again in a movie
theatre here (prior to the new Apocalypse Now version i guess), and i must
say it's a wonderful thrilling movie.
For those who don't know, here's the story: a surveillance professional is
hired to tape a couple's conversation by sophisticated means, and becomes
obsessed by this apparently casual babbling, that possibly relates to some
murder, filtering and fiddling around endlessly (partly with homemade gear)
with the tapes to clearly hear all the words, and find a meaning to the
thing. The sound approach is very interesting. I still have these bad
reception electronic glitches from the recording floating in my head.
To me that movie goes along monuments such as TH1138 and Farenheit 451 on
the cult level.
If you have the occasion, run to see it.
