Re: [microsound] Re: Mic preamps

Dave-

Well, right now I'm playing with a guy named Eric Weddle, who's running a
label called Family Vinyard....I'm playing an old Ensoniq eps sampler, a 3
string guitar, assorted contact mic'ed objects, sundry noise makers, tiny
synths, echo, etc.
He's mostly manning an incredibly squelchy mixing board. Our show is
complete imrov. We go by ::Fuck_DJs.

We'll be playing soon with a great drummer here in town named Matt
Griffin, who's playing in an exceptional band called Olo who just got
signed to Cornelius' label in Japan.

Another important Bloomington label is Secretly Canadian, which has a lot
of extremely interesting folks: Some of the bands include Atavin, the
Panoply Academy Core of Engineers (must hear), the Japonize Elephants from
Zorlok, Land of the Lost (not electronic, rather a sort of amalgam of
bluegrass, klezmer, irish fiddle music, general mayhem and Bartok,
extremely well composed music. They're all living in Oakland California
now, so if anyone's in the Bay Area, keep your ears peeled for Amaldacore,
Mega-Mousse, or the Japanize Elephants). Also Early Day Minors who create
extremely slow, developing atmospheres plays around. One of their members,
Dan Burton, just bought a house and immediately transformed it into a
recording studio.

There's a guy named Chris Leighty who performs solo around town quite a
bit. His stuff tends toward the more functional side of electronic music,
but really worthwhile stuff....

anyway, that's a cursory glimpse into some of the stuff happening here.

What's going on in Austin?
