Re: [microsound] max/msp
hi,
i've used max-msp for a 'design and digital media' masters degree and did
rather well...
i got a distinction.
i made an interactive installation where the visuals (very short QuickTime
movies made in Flash) were 'reactive', and the sound was processed in real-time
using a granular 'object'.
the whole project took about two months to complete, after fiddling with max
for about 6 months.
everyone on the course was pretty much blown away by what was going on, we'd
been shown some sound reactive stuff made with some 'extra' in Director - but
it didn't work properly. mine did, plus it processed sound too.
i'm not really a 'designer' as such, i wanted to expand on my ideas and use
some new technology instead of old analog synths...
max is really good, once you've worked out the basic concepts, but i'm no
programmer... and found some of it quite puzzling at first. the max-msp digest
has been really helpful, people answered my questions, even the really dumb
ones!!!
so, if you want to combine sound and visual stuff, max-msp is the one i'd say.
i put some info on the www about what i did, the site isn't very fancy but the
info is there...
