well, most of this emulation debate in the arena of microsound and the
trepidation microsounders seem to have saying that emulation is somewhat
mundane i think mainly stems from the fact that this sort of music is
relatively new. i don't necessarily think there's anything wrong with trying
to imitate someone else's styles or techniques, only if you get caught up in
that and don't hear your own sounds in your head or try and harbor unique
and individual creative processes on your own music you will most likely
never create anything that resonates through the feelings and souls of other
people. most people are, unfortunately, not personally or psychologically
ready for this kind of artistic challenge. also, it takes time to garner
enough experience and information to be a good musician regardless of genre
involved in. all this said, i certainly don't believe that specificity of
style or the need to be "weird" is an excuse to be lazy and unoriginal
whether you're a musician, computer artist, idealist, etc.
