Those interested in the interdisciplinary implications
of The Microsound Lifestyle could do worse than to
check out the recent article by "White on White" by
Brandon Joseph (in the Autumn 2000 issue of CRITICAL
INQUIRY), exploring the connection between Robert
Rauschenberg's "white" paintings from the early
Fifties and John Cage's ideas of silence (direct
connection to 4'33"). A frangment of the article can
be seen at
http://www.uchicago.edu/research/jnl-crit-inq/27.1/27.1.joseph.html

The paper really starts to cook when the Bergson/Cage
connection is mined, but unfortunately never quite
gets off the ground; interesting micro-reading
nonetheless.
