Re: [microsound] cd burning speeds and audio

about 99% of the masters i recieve are cdr. with this technology sitting in
peoples bedrooms(like mine) i get all kinds of fucked up audio discs, but
for the most part they're handled (scratches, fingerprints, etc.) or written
incorrectly (track at once, PQ points off). the important thing is quality
media (tdk, taiyo yuden, etc.) and drives (plextor, yamaha). i've done many
experiments with different transfer rates and media and, atleast with the
premastering software i use (eclipse data), i've only run into problems
(sound degradation, glicthes, unreadable sectors, verification errors) with
cheap media. i don't claim to have a golden ear, but i can't tell the audio
difference between a 1x and a 12x master.
if you cut all your shit at 12x you might run into playability issues on
older cd players or portables. but, hell, you run into that with cdr's in
general. some players can't follow the track pitch.
any decent replication house should be able to handle anything you guys
throw at them. i have a feeling none of you guy's use your master's as
coasters before sending them off!

Thanks,

Subject: [microsound] cd burning speeds and audio

hi list,

i've been wondering lately, just out of curiosity.. what the latest
"rules" are for cd burning speeds and audio. i remember in the old
days it was a general rule to not burn audio masters at anything
greater than 4X speed.. as it would have a higher rate of error...

now that we've hit the future, with 2001 and all.. and G4s exist, and
cd burner technology has moved along.. do these same rules still
apply?

i suppose on of these months i'll want to upgrade from my old 4X
burner but since audio is the most important data i write to CD i
want to make sure i won't be running into trouble if i buy an 8X, 12X
or 16X burner.

thanks for your knowledge.

taylor.
