speaking of cdr-rs...i usually use toast 4 deluxe (with a 8/4/24 yamaha
burner), but i'm quite fed up with the fact that you can't really get
continuous audio play with a cd-r burned this way and always notice the
track change (you get a gap of something like half a second between two
tracks).

Hmmm... don't know why you're having this problem, unless you have not selected disc-at-once in the preferences and 0 seconds between tracks. I have done what you want (continuous mix) with Toast 4.0.2 and a Glyph (Yamaha guts) 4/2/6 (yeah, it's a bit old) and it's worked out fine... even mastered a disc for pressing this way. The subindex thing is indeed weird, but as few (if any) players use subindexes anymore there's not much you could do with it anyway.
