VITRIOL ||||||| randonée 0.06 ||||||| CD




Sirr is a new, musician-run Portuguese label which
intends to establish
itself as a platform for the promotion and circulation
of new electronic
experimental music. Our focus reaches beyond
conventional academic and
commercial electronic music, favoring personal and
collective sound
creations that merge, to some extent, with the new
communicative values
proliferated by the "new media". We are more
interested in documenting
exceptional process than in rewarding aesthetically
well-finished works.
Weapproach electronic work and experimentation from
outside the safety of
institutional studios, in a dynamic and
confrontational relationship with
sound materials, environments and other artistic
languages in the moment
of their interdisciplinary emergence. With this in
mind, our next edition
will feature the amazing, unknown and unpublished
sound work from the
painter René
Bertholo.


"Randonée 0.06", by Portuguese electronic music
project "VITRIOL"
constitutes our first release. Formed by Paulo Raposo
and Carlos Santos,
this project has been in continuous development,
concentrated on real-time
sound manipulation and improvisational performance,
occasionally expanding
the nuclear duo by integrating acoustic instruments,
captured andtransformed
using custom software written in Max/MSP. This project
has actively involved
other media such as video, dance and site-specific
installations, and was
present last year in the ICMC2000 off-festival,
Berlin, that highlighted
the Powerbook underground, featuring Merzbow, Phill
Niblock and
representatives from Mego, Raster-Noton,
Staalplaat,etc.

This CD assembles pieces performed during the Internet
event "Le Placard:
Headphone Room", organized by the Buro association
(Paris) and
transmitted from the art gallery ZDB in Lisbon.
Proposing a vast series of
concerts, performances and real-time projections,
according to the organizers, "the
ideacame out of a desire of finding new ways to
diffuse and listen to electronic
music: bringing out a relationship inbetween
time/work/diffusion. (...) we would
like to try to bring this intimacy to a test via
electronic
communications, see how intimate it can stay
'through-line'".
"Randonée 0.06" departs with a series of digital
manipulative processes
and soundfield recordings from dissimilar open spaces
to create an intricate
and organic soundscape, where coordinates are erased
and deterritorialized,
leaving the listeners' perception open to find his own
(imaginary) space.
