crank + ekswyzia + phthalo: long term listening...
two westcoast-related questions...
first, i _finally_ got my hands on crank's _wanton phenomena_ (mille
plateaux). it's a little old but definitely worth hunting down,
completely unlike anything mp has put out in recent memory. this is
vintage danny zelonky, but here there's more of a full-on,
phthalocyanine-with-rounded-corners kind of feel to it which is
particularly well done. now hopefully it won't take another 2 years
before i find _heftibag_...
anyhow. my question for those who have the _wanton_ cd... i noticed
that the digipak cover has an inside slit, seemingly to hold a booklet.
but, there is no booklet! did i get screwed up somewhere or is it
normal? & if i did get screwed up, what am i missing?
my second question is about ekswyzia, who released 2 albums on phthalo:
a now-unavailable ep (you can find mp3s around, i gather...), & the
newish _live@phthalo studio_. phthalo claims this is an "unnamed
producer" but i'm guessing the name is either dimitri fergadis or danny
zelonky (the former being the most probable). any leads?
a few words on ekswyzia: this is the person who in my mind _finally_
bridged the gap between rhythm-based electronic music (duh, techno?) &
experimental improv. think lisa carbon, except free jazz instead of
latin cool. it's insane, totally hermetic & hard to listen to, but an
ambitious, challenging record from every angle.
ah, & while i'm at it, i'm curious about the following phthalo records,
if anyone can say a few words about them:
- libythth: dissolve a diamond (ph20)
- gerard wenzel: prairie program (ph30)
- daedelus: her's is greater than (ph34)
