The Lovebytes 2001 Festival is an international platform for artists working at the creative edge of the new technology explosion and a chance to see some of the World's most innovative and exciting contemporary art and media here in the UK.

Events run from 22-25 March and feature an international line up of
live music and multimedia performances complemented by screenings,
workshops, debates and panel sessions. The festival brings together a
wide range of computer art including music, film, installation,
performance, visual art and design.

Lovebytes has commissioned six artists to create sound based
multi-media artworks, the majority of which were produced at
Lovebytes' Lab in Sheffield. These works will be exhibited around the
Showroom and Workstation and will run for up to six weeks from 22 march
(see individual listings for details).

Lovebytes is not a trade show or conference, or anything in-between.
The focus is on technology, but it is the human aspects of technology
that are explored.

Since it was established in 1994 Lovebytes has relied on the internet
to develop and publicise the festival programme, making use of the
network to co ordinate an event where likeminded people can meet in a
creative atmosphere. When artists and audience arrive from around the
World, technology again provides the intersection between a diverse
range of arts activity. For four days a digital melting pot bubbles
with an exciting recipe of events, performances, exhibitions and
activities. This mixture of art, media and technology results in
creative cross over and net working between professionals, academics
and students. Lovebytes is also an international springboard for new
talent. Many of these artists are from the Yorkshire region and are
supported through Lovebytes' ongoing commissioning programmes and
through its production facilities in the Lovebytes Lab.

Lovebytes 2001 is supported by the Showroom Cinema, The Music
Department of The University of York, The University of Lincolnshire
and Humberside, The University for Industry, Synergy Audio Visual and
SIMULA (part of MediaTech).
