To me, recording techniques is about the science of transcription, so
you're going to tend to have a lot of old-world science of microphones,
mixers, and room design in any studio zine. TapeOp is a magazine you might
enjoy, generally oriented toward independent (usually indierock)
recordists and their limited (or not-so limited) budgets, touching on
stuff from four-track and DOD pedals to Manley and SSL. They are only
about 75% analog (vs. 110%), so they do do articles with digital and
synthy stuff from time to time. Check www.tapeop.com for archive listings
of their articles to see if they deal with stuff you want to know about,
as well as their offer for free 3rd class subscriptions.
