	The Museum of Contemporary Art welcomes turntable wizard Christian Marclay
for his first Chicago performance, a duet with illbient DJ Toshio Kajiwara.
The concert is part of Marclay's multi-faceted exhibition at the MCA opening
May 4.  Marclay's sonic collages involve scratching and sampling
splintered-and-reassembled vinyl.  His collaborations with Sonic Youth, John
Zorn, Otomo Yoshihide, Elliot Sharp, and others have redefined experimental
music. The program opens with Bus Ratch, the Japanese turntable trio, in
their Chicago debut.

	Combining elements of music, performance, and visual art, New York-based
artist Christian Marclay turns our attention to the ways in which we see and
hear music.  His newest sculptures include a towering drumkit, a
twenty-five-foot accordion, a bass guitar cast in rubber, and more.  Also
featured in the exhibition is the U.S. museum premiere of his video
installation, Guitar Drag.  Video and sound collages by Marclay and an essay
by Douglas Kahn will be available at www.mcachicago.org after May 4, 2001.

Bus Ratch is a turntable unit from Kyoto, Japan that began in the early days
of 1999. Takahiro, Mori, and Kawai employ DJ techniques such as mixing,
scratching, and matching to play original compositions and improvisations.
However, Bus Ratch's use of turntables goes beyond these common tactics. Bus
Ratch view the turntable as an instrument in itself. A source for sound that
is limited, yet much more than a machine for playing records. Working within
this environment, and through the repetition of constructing and
deconstructing sound, Bus Ratch finds their music.
