RE: [microsound] MAX/MSP
God i was resisting but i just have to jump in. muwahahahaha...
ok, first of all it is wrong to shut your self off to possibilities and it
is wrong to think that it is wrong to re-invent the wheel.right.
something like max/msp is a wonderfull tool that goes a layer deeper to
allow more fuckery. think of it like switching pacthes. some ppl are not
happy with just that and want to programme their own patches. some ppl like
to wire up there own modules and have more crazy patches they can switch
between. other folks like digging a bit deeper and like to programme thier
own modules. it just keeps going on. some folks would rather develop their
own lowpass envelope algorythm in a programming language. hell, i know a
nutter who wants to develop his own programming language cause he is not
happy with linux( now that is a bit crazy but i admire him for his energy,
and more power to him)
ok. my point is max/msp is a fantastic music tool because it lets you get to
the lowest layer of making music. its intuitive, realtime and is gonna be
ported to win doooooooze !!

I'm not all that familiar with the
MAX/MSP programming enviroment, but from what I understand, you pretty
much
have to be a decent C++ programmer to use it anyhow.
This is close to the point I was hitting at... why not invest some time in
your art? Work on c and read the I Ching everyday for a year and then you
can grab msp, if need, by the balls. Do we really need another dreadful
reverb plugin? Software has the potential to be as visceral an art as
literature. Do please take some care with your education.
ok, I'm getting off my box now.
