actually, what thrill jockey once said was that for some absurd reason,
in japan, domestic CDs cost MORE than imports. as a result, they add
bonus tracks on the japanese version to make it more appealing to
japanese customers who would otherwise go for the import (like duh).

i suppose that's the reason why certain reissue CDs (syd barrett, white
noise...) are only available in the japanese version, so as to make the
whole world pay one single overexaggerated price. (plus import costs,
obviously.)

things become all the more bizarre as domestic japanese CDs which are
available domestically elsewhere are not allowed to be exported out of
japan (though i don't understand exactly why). obviously they do get
exported, but in very small quantities & thus end up even more expensive
than they ought to.

& then thrill jockey adds these extra hidden tracks on the US release so
that us americanites don't feel left out with all this bonus track
action. & hopefully (they must think) the japanese will buy both
versions when they see them in their stores.

i think you should just wait when they release the oval b-sides
compilation. or just go to napster. personally i don't care much for
oval. nor do i use cosmetics, coincidentally.
