Re: [microsound] analog|digital or digilog?
now, analog microsound... what would that be like? (is that a
contradiction?)
-I think this is a great question to consider. Are we at a point where in
order for something to be considered microsound it must be produced on a
computer? Does the medium define the message? and if so are we only then
obcessed with our technology? The computer allows us to zero in on sounds in
a microscopic way and this process is speed up by our processors ability to
perform algroythums quickly. What defines microsound? If you think at the
manifesto of Line they talk about focusing inon the space between sounds, to
me that deals with the idea of A-postionality, that is finding meaning in
the space between based on those spaces allowing you to asscoitae freely
between each other. There is a great article/interview with pimmon in a past
issue of the wire, he talks about painting an experience with sound, i find
this intersting, I have always enjoyed pimmons work, waves and particles
really accomplishes his idea of other places, the sound is dense and
difficult but after listen for some time, it opens up and allows you room to
breath and float. My studio is a mix of tape and computers. As for sound,
all my sound sources are generated inside the computer, this discussion has
really open me up acoustic recording ideas. I think bringing in analog adds
a warmth and depth to the overall sound.
well, hope this went somewhere.
