Re: [microsound] Bring it back to civility

But lately it seems like the list has become a mouthpiece for nonsense
childish rants (the taylor d. name game), microsound ebay sales, and for
vague shameless self-promotion of non-microsound music (and this is not a
stab at Twine, I respect and enjoy their work).

I'm interested in learning about new microsound music, and peoples
intelligent/passionate thoughts about it. Talk equipment, talk software,
talk theory, network...that's all beautiful and this list has been great,
but it seems to have been slipping.

The Jeremy crap is indeed annoying, but far more frustrating is people who KNOW exactly what "microsound" is, decide if what you are sharing fits or doesn't and then make generalizations based on their opinion of the music. Sorting through 60 email from a kid who seems like he's just having fun getting attention is STUPID, but even I really get disgusted with listers on ANY list is when they try to claim a more esoteric position and feel that they should almost have veto power over what goes on through the course of a mailing list. And you all are giving this kid so much pleasure playing with him. His b.s. should roll off your backs.

Why don't we start blacklisting people we don't like or whose music "isn't microsound enough". Hell, let's exterminate them altogether, right. I don't want to read through record sales and name calling as much as anyone here but I expect that much when I join a list and you'll never hear me whine about somebody who has an interest in microsound music promoting their own stuff WHETHER OR NOT IT FITS YOUR ACADEMIC CALCULATIONS OF EXACTLY WHAT MICROSOUND IS.

I, personally, haven't seen someone self-promoting something here that didn't have reason to be shared. I won't lie and say I've followed every link, but, in my opinion, if a person is informed of this list and its general direction, they should be FREE to promote their own works. I'd like if you'd point out some of these "shameless self promotions that have nothing to do with microsound" pretty please, sir John.

If, say, the drummer of, say, the Clash (just for example's sake) had a secret microsound fetish and he put out a release that was INSPIRED by microsound while not completely falling within YOUR guidelines of the genre, would you not want to hear it? I would.
