Re: [microsound] field recording

while this on topic here at .ms, i figured you'd probably want to know about the phonograpy mailing list. it's a mailing list dedicated to field recordings. from soup to nuts. they would be your best resource. http://www.phonography.org/

hello,

this is somewhat unrelated to microsound but i thought some of you might
have knowledge in this particular area.

i have been invited to participate in a project which will involve
recording of animals in the wilderness.

my questions are :

 1) what kind of microphones should i be using, considering that the
animals will be as fas away as 300 feet from me.

 2) what is the best way to position the mikes

 3) omni directional or cardioid ?

i realise that i will need a parabolic dish and i have been looking into
the the Telinga Pro 5 model.

any info that would shed some light in the matter would be greatly
appreciated.

thanks
