yes, there's a lot of it, but if you enjoy learning it's great.  it's very
fast to make things work.  it's not so great for large teamwork as
everyone codes Perl in a different way.

yes i use unix, i don't know about realtime perl audio with ms and apple
but you could write to WAV files using the Audio::Wav module from CPAN
(search.cpan.org) or the MIDI modules from the same place.
