contact mics are condenser mics or pizo(sp?)condensers, they primarily only
pick up the sound of what ever is touching the contact mic. like if you put
a contact mic under a table, it would pick up all of the movement on the
table but little to none of the other sound in the room, very useful for
electro-acoustic recordings.

you can pick them up at Surplus electronics stores for around 50cents or
75cents for the large ones. get the ones that are just flat copper mics not
the housed ones, youll have alot better luck getting good sound from the
copper mics.
