Re: [microsound] critique/criticize

1) I don't recall much (if any) comments of that sort regarding works released by artists present on this list.

2) This behavioral trend also seems to permeate other microsound(-ish)
review outlets besides this list. You will rarely see a microsound(-ish)
artist criticizing the work of another microsound(-ish) artist with whom he
has a relationship of some sort. Or a non-musician with ties with the
"microsound community". Probably to be expected... I don't know. Sadly,
however, I think it is a somewhat unhealthy situation. I think that the
"everything is great, everybody produces great music" (self-)congratulatory
attitude installs a stagnant climate that is detrimental to the development
of the music.

hello...

but no one every said that everyones work is great etc etc...
merely because there are no online posts saying "that mr/ms ______'s work.... eeeew it stinks..."
doesnt mean that people are scared to voice their opinion.

does anyone really want to read endless messages about "that cd sucks" "no it doesnt" "yes it does" etc etc...
(which is what i understand happens onthe IDM list)

does this happen on other lists?

i myself would tend not to criticize a fellow artists work in a public setting (such as this list or a lecture etc) just because to me it is not the time or the place to do it. to me it doesn't benefit the public. (private diatribes are more interesting)

i would be more apt to critique a particular work but most likely i would do this to the person directly and again not in a public forum. BUT if i dont like a cd i bought... i just wouldnt bother to write about it... or post about it (because it wouldnt stay in my collection very long at all... it would be out the door to the USED CD STORE : )
and i probably wouldnt think about it ever again....

i am much more interested in new releases that people find fascinating ... sparks my interest.
i personally really could care less what people dont like... i assume that what they dont like they dont post about orthey dont buy at all.. : )
it depends on how things are written.... is it just that the writer doesnt like it... does the writer not like it in comparison to previous work... does the writer hate the artist personnally : )

i think positive feedback is great and especially a constructive critique.

a fine line between criticism and critique... and especially awkward in online communications without being able to hear or see the person giving them...

just my two cents...
