VISUAL SOUNDINGS SERIES: j.frede 12note composition for sines

The upstairs gallery will consist of 4 studio monitors playing the sines from 50hz to 9000hz at a comfortable listening level. "Each composition was written using Schoenberg's "12 note composition for piano's" technique of the 1940's, adapted for sine waves the sine's are played in groups relating to each other in there numeric value instead of their pitch, i.e.: 50hz, 500hz, 5000hz - 100hz, 1000hz, 10000hz -ect..." j.frede will perform a live set ,using the source material from the installation, the last 20 minutes of the event.

*The Museum of Contemporary Art/Denver is pleased to present Visual Soundings, an experimental music series created by the Museum to celebrate the commonality between music and the visual arts. Visual artists and musicians have long been partners, whether working together or inspiring one another. Visual Soundings will present the significant talent and work of contemporary musicians of this region as well as provide a forum for cross-disciplinary dialogue between new music and the visual arts. The Museum has asked Mark McCoin, sound designer and musician, to guest curate this series with this idea in mind.

Splatterhead **Live Performance**

The infamous Splatterhead Show makes its final performance for 2001 this Thursday, October 4th, at the Museum of Contemporary Art-Denver, located on the southwest corner of 19th and Larimer. Ambient atmospheric soundscapes get underway at 5pm; Splatterhead performance begins at 7pm and runs approximately 40 minutes. Admission is $5.00 for non-members of MCA-D, and $3.00 for members. All proceeds will benefit the Intelligence Community.

Join wordsmith Chris Mosdell (lyricist for the likes of Eric Clapton, Boy George, Ryuichi Sakamoto and technofied legends Yellow Magic Orchestra) as he performs his "tongue-drum delirium" of Songlines elucidating his excursions in Tokyo over the past two decades. Accompanying are the choreographed optimum optic shrapnel of projectionist devslashnull and the sultry salacious soundscapes of DJ E23 (both of RadioValve.com).

Those of you who have caught previous performances will appreciate the ever-evolving escapades of the latest incarnation of the Splatterhead Show; those of you who are unfamiliar will come to appreciate poetry, projection and post-club DJ mixing in a cyberdelic 21st Century setting. Sense of humor, awe and wonder recommended for all viewers.
