Kunsthalle Lophem - Maria Blondeel - Street Works

Maria Blondeel - Street Works

1 hour concert of HH - 16 October 2001 - 20.30u - Kunsthalle Lophem

LIVE WEBCAST ON WWW.URBANMAG.BE

The tones you hear in 'Street Work' were produced by an electronic sound
generator. The sound element reacts in real time to the light. The sound
generator transposed the light, as measured by photo electric cells
(sensors), into high and low pitched square waves. During the Incubation
project Maria Blondeel installed, on the sidewalk of the St. Jakobs street,
an interactive tone box. On http://listen.to/street_work you find a video
fragment with the evening rush hour, when a long row of cars drives through
the street and the headlights make the pitches go up and down again. The CD
'A10;E40' in the incubation kit was recorded by Maria Blondeel on the 27th
of March on the highway from Gent to Bruges. In this work you hear a
continuous low pitched sound caused by the typical Belgian electric
standards along the highway. 'HH' was recorded in Hamburg during August
2001. Maria Blondeel drove through Hamburg on various times, during the day
and at night. She followed different routes while recording the light,
whether sun light or artificial light. 'DKR341' can be visited with a guide
(max. 7 persons ) on appointment.
