i bought a portable md a while ago, and tried hard to find one with ANY kind of digital out. doesn't exist, outside japan anyway.
sony's mz-r4st is available outside japan. http://www.minidisc.org/part_Sony_MZ-R4ST.html it's a portable with a docking station which has optical out.
