I've got a Sony MZS-R4ST from Japan.
It's a portable unit that you can mount
into a base unit and do easier editing,
naming etc. It has optical in/out on it.
When I need to get it into SPDIF land
I use either a Fostex Optical/SPDIF
convertor box or the TC Finalizer.

You can buy rackmount units from
http://www.minidisco.com that have
digital outputs on them.
