I for one have been happily using Reaktor, Tassman, and Audiomulch, as my
primary sound generators/processors for several years now, not for lack of
DSP or synthesis knowledge, but simply because I don't feel I've pushed
these apps as far as they can go. Rebirth is certainly a toy but ask anyone
without extensive knowledge of sythesis and signal flow to jump into Tassman
or Reaktor and build you a basic synth... I think you're going to end up
sitting there for a while.

I have only recently begun to reach a point where delving into the PD/MAX
end of things is a possibility, as I have finally begun to come up against
some walls in the previously mentioned applications, where I would like to
have more control or make changes to module design at a lower architectural
level.

In a nutshell I think it's simply a matter of balance. Someone with
beginners programmming experience who has a few hours a day to make music
will probably become quickly frustrated if they spend the majority of there
precious free time on low level programming issues.
The same frustration would probably be experienced by Mr Super Cracker if
he's trying to develop his own unique app and he's stuck making 303 and
minimoog clones.

Know thy self...
