Re: [microsound] re: 12k's term



i will have to agree with taylor on this one.  while yes... there is a
certain amount terminology being used and thrown around, they aren't
just there to make peoplel feel intelligent and market the product.  to
me it is very important what the sound artist/musician is thinking about
and the process invovled in creating an aural piece.  if the artists
says "12k presents term, a bunch of MP3 releases" it deployes a series
of mp3s without any ideas or concepts.  it sort of like going into a
museum of modern art and looking at many of the works in the last 30-40
years without having an understanding of modern, post-modern and other
aristic concepts.  the art pieces just sort of become these floating
pieces which may be cosmetically pleasing, but on an intellectual level
do not take a deliberate stance on what the artist wants to communicate.
something i've always been a fan of is opening up the discussion between
audio artists and understanding what each others conceptions of music
are and how the individual relates to their product...
