Actually, to indulge in a little namedrop myself, Walter Benjamin has a
fantastic essay on book collecting, in which he basically speaks as an
apologist for the guilty pleasure of buying books you'll never read... I
*think* it's in Illuminations, or the companion volume, but I may be wrong
there. Anyway, worth seeking out.
