to my knowledge it's a question of how loud AND how long. think of it as
'dosage' (sp?). there's a certain time for each amount of noise/sound what
is considered as being 'safe', like (if i remember right) the normal club
rating about 90-100dB is "safe", meaning it's safe for 4-5 hours, after
that, it's propably harmful. higher dB = shorter 'safe' time.

and then you have to think about sound spectre, this mainly applies to
A-weighted meters, what monitor mainly the middle, or 'speech' frequencies,
what are the most sensitive in human ears (lowest pain treshold = most
fragile hearing).
