you want to do the center channel removal, then invert that and combine
with original.

center channel removal (do all of this with copies of the original): 

invert one side.
combine with non-inverted other side.
qed stuff that is the same gets subtracted, so center channel is
gone.  this results in a mono file, of course.

in practice, this isn't all that good.  cooledit or soundforge or anything
else that can invert individual channels and mix paste (or overlay) will
work.
