alesis m1 monitors. they're powered, a touch under 500 dollars and 
work beautifully. as far as a mixing board, if you have just minimal 
equipment you might want to look into a behringer mx602a 6 channel 
board. ive been using this setup for about 2 or 3 years now, and love 
it.
