As someone who lived through all this, I find the above quite funny.
Many of these pioneers are still alive and working. The Ars Electronica
1992 exhibition was devoted to a retrospective of these folks...

Have you seen Dan Sandin's tape demontrating his real time vido
synthesizer in 1972? He used to send out the schematic to anyone that
sent him a stmaped self-addressed envelope.
