two small questions for you:

"i am not in minidiscs as i prefer mp3-recording"

have a look at http://www.archos.com for the "Jukebox Recorder". it records mp3's with up to ~260vbr/44100 on an internal 10gb/20gb 2,5"-hdd, which allows not to care about the length of a recording. you can delete takes. it offers digital in/out, analogue line in, ear and a usb-interface. you can even use it as a portable data storage device too, as it is just a usb-connected hdd for your pc/mac. i made quite good experiences with it, though it might be a bit more sensible than a minidisc, because of the hdd. so don't throw it on the ground ...

a similar solution exists from creative labs, though it records as wav. and imho creative s***s in general.

"i recommend the SONY ECM-ZS90 as a mike. it allows you to zoom (mono only)"

allows you to zoom?

care to elaborate a little more?

i don't know how the sony-guys did this exactly, but you can switch from "stereo" to "zoom low" to "zoom high". thus the mic is stronger directed upon the targeted sound-source and enables you to record quite silent or more remote sources without strayed "side-sounds". call it "concentrated".

you lose stereo for this and the freq's range reduces from 80-18k to 150-12k.

data from the spec's:

sensitivity:
STEREO operation: -40+-3dB
ZOOM High op: -22+-4dB
ZOOM Low Op: -28+-4dB

hope this helped,
